WHY BUSINESS ANALYTICS
According to Gartner, the modern business intelligence market in India is expected to grow by 30 percent and data analytics platforms by 19 percent in 2018. Modern technology produces a vast amount of information that provides business an opportunity to understand customer preferences better, leading to more choices for customer acquisition. LIBA and Virginia Tech India’s new Postgraduate Program in Business Analytics , prepares students to better meet societal, economic, and technology demands. Preparing for today’s market requires skills in big data technologies, advanced statistics, machine learning, data security, cloud application development and innovative thinking.
According to International Data Corporation research, data will grow at a compound rate of 42 percent through 2020, which represent an exponential growth. As repeatable tasks are replaced with robotics and more evolved tasks with artificial intelligence, the job market shows tremendous potential. According to Forbes, in the US, jobs requiring machine-learning skills pay an average of $114,000. Advertised data scientist jobs pay an average of $105,000, and advertised data engineering jobs pay an average of $117,000. The number of openings in data analytics is expected to be 2.7 million by 2020, and a large number of these jobs will be in the finance and insurance industry. Global demand for trained data scientists is increasing.
With more time spent on smart devices and increased interaction with search engines, social media, and news feeds, the nature of data continues to evolve with a degree of anarchy. Unstructured data is growing significantly faster than data in rows and columns. Add to this mix Internet of Things (IoT) and you begin to see that the volume, velocity, and variety of data require thinking within a completely new paradigm.
The LIBA and Virginia Tech India Postgraduate Program in Business Analytics is a 12-month program, organised into six sequential units of approximately two months each. In each unit, you will take classes on different topics through both in-person and online instruction. Upon completion of all requirements, students will obtain a diploma from Virginia Tech. Our classes are modular in approach led by a faculty member. Experts from industry and academia assist the lead faculty members. Each unit is comprised of in-person and online instruction. During the final three months, you are required to determine and complete a business analytics solution for an dentified problem in a business domain of your choice.

Blend of on campus and online instruction from US faculty Guided by industry experts on projects Learn from successful entrepreneurs
The delivery mode of the program facilitates working professionals as well as full-time students to enroll in the program without leaving their employment. Each unit will be covered using classroom lectures and online instruction. Students are expected to be on campus every two months for four days, which will include a weekend to cause minimum disruption at work. This will be supplemented by online classes, which will be held on scheduled weekends. Additionally there will be recorded lectures on our learning management system which participants can access during their convenient timings. The number of contact hours will be 450 over a 12 month period. Our faculty are very familiar with this mode of instruction having successfully delivered similar programs for over 18 years.

Faculty members are credentialed with Ph.Ds from universities with highly ranked programs in big data analytics and associated areas. They possess vast amounts of experience and each is considered an expert in his or her field. Faculty members are drawn from academia and industry, with the academic faculty providing the theoretical foundation and the faculty from industry teaching how these theories are applied. In addition, instructors provide guidance on assignments, projects, and tests.

The role of the industry advisors is to provide continued guidance to maintain the program's value to industry. Members consist of business leaders, technology experts, and entrepreneurs. The advisors meet periodically to review the curriculum and program focus and provide strategic direction to the program.
Innovation & Entrepreneurship
We teach our students an entrepreneurial style of management. Whether you are working for a large or small company or you want to start your own business, in order to be competitive, you have to be entrepreneurial and innovative. Throughout our program we breed an entrepreneurial spirit in you. We prepare innovative thinkers who can provide effective solutions that benefit society and the economy. An innovative solution using an integrated innovation project prepares students to be entrepreneurial in business data analytics. We expect all our students to identify a business problem that is amenable to a business analytics solution. The capstone project will have all the four elements of our program – data, model, technology and domain. Evidence of learning is demonstrated though the successful completion and presentation of the project.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
This is a postgraduate program. All students with an undergraduate degree from a reputed institution are encouraged to apply. However, you must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in data analytics. We encourage people to apply from all sectors of industry, such as, IT, finance, banking, insurance, consumer products, manufacturing, marketing, and other areas that involve data analytics. Applicants should have a minimum of two years of work experience with some experience in information technology or a degree in engineering / math / computer science.
After we receive your completed application, an admissions committee will review it. If selected, you will be
asked to appear for an online or phone interview. If needed, we may ask for reference letters and additional
information. A final decision by the committee will be made after the interview. The selection process will
consider your academic background, grades, standardized test scores, work experience, reference letters (if
asked), interview results and other criteria as deemed necessary by the committee.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, CS, IT, IS, Business, Commerce
